Como Park Zoo, MN — Polar Bear Odyssey

The Polar Bear Odyssey Exhibit remodel took place in 2005. American Sealants Inc. was happy to help expand the polar bears’ home. It nearly quadrupled in size, giving the polar bears more space to sleep, roam, play, and swim.

Glass installation, waterproofing.

American Sealants Inc. (ASI) is known worldwide for its acrylic and glass fabrication, installation, and waterproofing for zoo and aquarium exhibits — trusted by SeaWorld, Disney, and more than 100 zoos, aquariums, and theme parks.

The result is a 13,140-square-foot outdoor habitat — complete with two pools at varying depths, one of them stocked with live fish so the bears can practice natural hunting behavior, a 260-square-foot digging area, and a climate-controlled indoor viewing building with floor-to-ceiling windows where visitors can watch the bears swim at eye level. The whole exhibit is designed around a Hudson Bay ecosystem, with a river-washed stream, rocky cliffs, and evergreen plantings standing in for the bears’ native Arctic coastline.

As with every ASI project, the goal was a seamless, crystal-clear result built to last — giving both the bears and Como’s visitors a habitat that withstands Minnesota’s climate for years to come. It’s the same standard the company brings to its work with SeaWorld, Disney, and over 100 zoos and aquariums worldwide.
