African Penguin Point, Cincinnati Zoo
The Installation
This zoo penguin habitat acrylic installation brought American Sealants Inc. to Cincinnati Zoo’s African Penguin Point, where ASI supplied and installed the exhibit’s acrylic viewing windows. The habitat opened in September 2020 and is three times as large as the colony’s previous home, giving visitors a clear underwater view of the penguins swimming.
A Second Project: Roo Valley’s Little Blue Penguins
ASI also supplied and installed acrylic for a separate Cincinnati Zoo exhibit — the Little Blue Penguin, or “fairy” penguin, habitat in the zoo’s Roo Valley expansion. Check out this video from the Cincinnati Zoo on the Roo Valley expansion and what it does for the animals and the environment.
Research & Guest Experience
Cincinnati Zoo’s bird team has since built a 24/7 tracking system into its penguin habitats to study swimming and social behavior, technology recognized with the zoo’s Plume Award.
For guests, both habitats offer underwater views the penguins never had before; for the zoo’s own researchers and keepers, that same design supports natural behavior and long-term wellbeing.
