The Challenge
This hospital waiting room acrylic fountain installation required American Sealants Inc. to solve two compounding problems at once. Completion of the installation of a water feature can be a little challenging when it is an infinity edge — anytime an infinity-edge fountain or pool is installed, it must be perfectly level or the water won’t fall evenly off the edges. This fountain wasn’t only an infinity edge, it was also curved. American Sealants Inc. completed the task without a hitch.
The Fountain
The finished feature is a curved, clear acrylic wall of water measuring 9 feet tall and 17 feet wide and weighing roughly 9,000 pounds, fabricated entirely from R-Cast® acrylic by Reynolds Polymer Technology and installed in the medical center’s main waiting room in 2007.
The Patient Experience
Now patients at the medical center listen to the sound of water cascading from the fountain.
It’s a small, deliberate piece of hospital design: the sound and motion of falling water are used in healthcare settings specifically to ease anxiety in waiting areas, where people are often under real stress.
